Missing my initial flight to Hurghada from Istanbul I was able to get another ticket for the next night, just a different destination. I arrived 3am in Sharm- it was such a nice warm breeze I decided to walk, I guess the sense of freedom and arrival gave me an extra boost of energy. (About 20 km to the city) Luckily a cab picked me up(as they would:D) and by 4 am I was tucked in my sleeping bag (mosquitos) in some random beach.(Gates were open) I was woken up by a dude trying to sell me mj, something told me not to go for it. Later it turned out he was a cop seeing if the far from home European would take the bait. A kind no thank you obviously was not what the quicktempered egyptian wanted to hear, so the hopes of me just chilling until afternoon and recovering from the night at the airport wasnt happening. It didnt help either that we were in the middle of the winter season and barely no tourists were around. So when a whiteman is suddenly washed at the shore the thirst of the deserted becomes quickly apparent. Perhaps they were just curious too but it was definitely not the same vibes I remembered from the last time I visited. Albeit as a tourist and in the proper season.(Thank you my precious parents) Anyway, a busload of policemen eventually arrived to detain me as I refused to show my passport to the stranger who tried to sell me drugs and now claims to be a copper demanding ID - I thought I made it clear that I want no trouble by leaving the situation, but I guess he wasnt having me get away that 'easy'. Either way I was quickly reminded of the different continent factor. The taste of being a minority in a completely different political-military affairs, particularly at the time. I guess its supposed to rattle a little esp. when you come off the grid. I didnt stay in Sharm for too long. The emergency flight ticket kinda mixed things up with the budget. I had like 50 euros on me at the time.
I dont know why I felt like sharing this, Im obviously not going to detail out the whole trip, but I hope itll give you some context and a sense of milieu alongside the photos. So Sharm ->bus to Dahab -> Hitchhike Nuweiba -> Hitchhike St Catherine ->bus to Cairo. I can assure you I was the only one hiking those roads lol. It was challenging but every day was also so magical, literally like in a videogame or something- a tourist in a no-mans land. This lasted all the way to Cairo where I stayed in a hostel as a workaway. :)
